Raja Ampat has recently been discovered by scientists to house the world’s richest reef systems. The group of islands situated on the equator, is part of Papua and counts more than 600 islands. Today while the area is still pretty much unknown and unexplored owing to its size, what we do know is that these islands harbour an amazing diversity of breathtaking underwater life.

The Raja Ampat island group spreads out over a huge area; the four largest islands are Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool and are located at the west side of the “Birdhead Peninsula” in New Guinea. The Indonesian province Papua is the western half of the island of New Guinea, while Papua New Guinea is the eastern half.
