Mabul Water Bungalow is a new floating dive-resort situated at Mabul Island overlooking the world-known Sipadan Island which is 15-minutes away by speedboat.

There are fifteen (15) stilted wooden-type bungalows entirely built over water offering sheer comfort. Each bungalow exquisitely furnished with contemporary decor, equipped with remote control air-conditioner, ceiling fan, private bathroom-hot/cold shower and toilet, spacious private balcony offer panoramic vistas of blue sea, colour TV with satellite channels, mini bar and in-room safety box.

Facilities includes a large and airy restaurant for dining, a souvenirs shop selling variety of t-shirts, accessories and gifts, a business center with internet service, a dive center and an office taking care all the guests registration, billings and spa.

The dive centre boats will collect you everyday for two dives at Sipadan, with a third dive back in Mabul or Kapalai Island. Nitrox is available for those qualified to use it, and if you need yet more diving, then there’s unlimited complimentary shore dives at some of the favourite Mabul dive sites, such as Froggy Lair, or direct from the resorts own jetty, where you find an excellent artificial reef.

Please be informed that all daily entry to dive or visit to Sipadan Island will be subject to approval by the Sabah Parks Management, the authorities in charge of issuing the entry permits. The total number of divers or visitors allowed to visit Sipadan island is now restricted to 120 persons per day.
The fee for Entry Permit to Sipadan Island is RM 40.00 per person per day for divers, non-divers, visitors and children. This entry permit fee has to be paid on the spot, in the resort if the approval is obtained. Please take note that the permit to Sipadan Island is NOT GUARANTEED.
However, should the entry permit to Sipadan Island is not been approved, we can offer alternative diving at nearby islands such as Si Amil, Mataking, Ligitan, Kapalai or Mabul where there is no restrictions on these islands.

A tiny jewel-like island in the Sulu Sea, just a 90-minute boat ride north of Sandakan, Lankayan has been declared part of an immense Marine Protected Area to adopt the eco-tourism concept. Unpopulated and covered by thick tropical island vegetation on its topside, this peaceful, untouched little bit of paradise is ringed by an endless pure of white sandy beach.

The Resort offers simply elegant and exquisite accommodation in all 16 wooden, roomy and perfectly appointed seafront double-occupancy chalets and 2 bungalows which consist of 4 and 5 units of standard room respectively.

While the ideal destination for those who search for tranquility and relaxation in a virgin natural setting and for families with children, Lankayan Island has also become one of the hottest diving destination on the map today: its dive sites – all just a few minutes away – boast unbelievable colorful macro, fauna, fascinating wrecks.

From March to May each year, gigantic and gentle whale sharks can be found in the waters surrounding the island.

Lankayan Island, being situated within the Sea Turtle Corridor, is also a nesting place and foraging ground for sea turtles; most commonly the Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle. Guests will have the chance to see turtles nesting as well as new hatchlings of baby turtles released to the sea especially in season from June to September.

Although you can still walk around the entire island in less than an hour, Mabul is considerably larger than Sipadan, and boasts two resorts and a large village, mainly home to fisherman and employees (and their families) of the two resorts.

Sipadan and Mabul couldn’t be more different. While the interior of Sipadan is untouched tropical forest, Mabul is predominantly made up of actively producing coconut trees. Practically every tree on the island is numbered and is associated with a distinct individual who cares for the tree and harvests the coconuts.

The SMART Divers Resort is nestled in a coconut grove on the south-east side of the island overlooking the water and near-by Sipadan Island. It consists of 40 wooden duplex chalets with each room featuring two oversized single beds, a couch, shelves, ceiling fan, flyscreened windows, air-conditioning, a private en-suite offering free-flowing hot and cold fresh water and a front veranda.

The public buildings include a main house which is an open air pavilion where meals are taken, an air-conditioned lounge, called The Deco, set aside for watching videos, and a huge lock-up airing shed for storing your equipment each evening.

SMART

Sipadan-Mabul Resort is located at the southern tip of Pulau Mabul overlooking Sipadan.

The Resort has 45 beach chalets (22 are stand alone chalets) which could accommodate 90 guests at any one time. All the chalets have attached toilet with hot shower facilities and the comfort of air-conditioning which is available for 24 hours. Electrical outlet is 220 Volt AC. Accommodation is built from native materials.
A vinyl swimming pool measuring 41 ft X 21 ft with a 6 ft deep end.
A glass bottom boat 12 ft long, excellent for non-divers, who can enjoy the beauty of underwater marine life.
A large dining hall/bar area is used for meals, socializing, dancing and staff shows. Coconut drinks, carbonated soft drinks, beer and wine can be purchased at the bar.
A small sundry shop sell a range of T-Shirts, films, batteries, toiletries, souvenirs etc. An office takes care of the registration and billing; it is equipped with a Mobile Telephone/Fax for communications with the mainland.

This marine heritage is a geographical wonder as well, with the atoll rising from the deep blue depth of 2,000m, hardly breaching the surface.

Also known as ‘The Jewel of the Borneo Banks’, Layang Layang has created for itself a calm lagoon which teems with wildlife. - There is NO GUARANTEE that we can obtain permits due to limited spaces especially if it is a last minute request, and is to be applied paid upon confirmation or else, the resort will have the right to deny any guest from entering Sipadan Island.
- The fee is RM 40 per person and is valid for ONE (1) day only. This is subject to change.
- This levy charge is to be paid separately as it is NOT included in any of our packages.

Sipadan Water Village is located on the island of Mabul. This small island surrounded by sandy beaches and perched on the northwest corner of a larger 200-hecter reef is notably known as one of the world’s best “muck-diving” sites. The reef is on the edge of a continental shelf and the seabed surrounding the reef slopes out to 75 to 100 feet deep. Mabul is arguably one of the riches single destination for exotic small marine life anywhere in the world.

Flamboyant cuttlefish, blue-ringed octopus, mimic octopus and bobtail squids are just a few of the numerous types of cephalapods found. The sight of harlequin shrimp feeding on sea stars and boxer crabs waving their tiny anemone pom-poms are just a small example of the endless species of crustaceans. The list seemingly endless, it would be easier to list the species not found at Mabul – crazy critters are in abundance at this magical macro site!

Sipadan Water Village offers you the excitement of superb diving along with comfort and relaxation. The village, fringed by beautiful corals, pearl white sands and amazing marine beauty, is the epitome of class and luxury.

The entire resort is built over water on stilts made of Belian Wood commonly called ironwood, laid in certain points so as to minimise damage to the existing reef. In its design, Sipadan Water Village has achieved near utopia in its over-the-water layout, splendid water cottage accommodations with flowered sidewalks, wonderfully prepared Asian and Continental cuisine, and impeccable and personable service.

Our last boat transfer from Semporna to Mabul Island is 1630 hours and first boat departing from the resort is 0630 hours
It is not advisable to do boat transfers in the dark

MV Black Manta will be exploring Layang Layang & The Spratlys in the merry month of May

In the merry month of May, the MV Black Manta will be exploring Layang Layang and the Borneo Banks. There will be 3 departure dates on May 11-17, May 19-25 and May 27 – Jun 02, 2010.

MV Black Manta is designed and owned by cruise leader Vincent Chew who has more than 20 years of diving experience diving in the South China Sea. The boats were built by divers for divers.

Itinerary

7D6N Layang Layang & Borneo Banks

Borneo Banks lie beyond Layang Layang and consists of the Ardarsier shoal, Mariveles reef, Investigator Shoal, Erica Reef, Dallas Reef. Sailing time is about 17 hours from Kota Kinabalu.
